I am passionate about empowering others in choosing to care for themselves in an holistic manner.
I started my journey as a young teen attending Earth Day events in school and dreaming about caring for all of nature’s creatures through Scouting Programs. Before I was 20, I was diagnosed with hyperthyroid disease and was taking about 13 pills a day. At age 18, I had car accident and my first NDE (near death experience). Nine months later, I had my thyroid removed after radiation protocol. I later found out it had been unnecessary to remove my over-active thyroid and it was that event that became the catalyst for my interest in finding alternative methods to standard health care. I believe that when allopathic (standard) medicine IS needed, one can blend complementary methods to hasten recovery by supporting the body’s immune system.
The thyroid removal caused me to gain about 65 pounds. I put myself on a what I would later call my lifestyle change. I went from eating whatever I wanted to realizing I had to change my eating patterns. I didn’t want to diet, as everyone I saw on a diet complained and was always on one. I noted that pushing against food caused it to ‘push back’, so I created a 3-craving plan for my life based on knowing myself. Within 6 months, I lost about 30 pounds. Three months later, I lost the final 15 pounds to get me to a healthier window of weight which I have maintained for more than 25 years. I have kept it off without any feelings of deprivation. Food is my friend and I still love to eat. Living Well is my choice.
Throughout my time since then, I have sought out, studied and chosen to experience a wide variety of complementary and alternative methodologies for people and pets. I am now studying for a Holistic Wellness and Nutrition Coach certification through IIN, Institute for Integrative Nutrition.
In addition, I have 21 years of experience with “fur babies” or pets. My Himalayan cat, “Chewbacca”, was diagnosed at age 3 with “FUS” or feline urinary syndrome and given 4-5 more years to live. I thought that if natural care works on me, it will work for him. I researched various treatments and took him to Dr. Norman Ralston, a homeopathic veterinarian. I studied homeopathy and pet nutrition and am happy to report that Chewbacca lived a high quality life to age 16, well beyond his expected lifespan of 12/13 years old. I also had great fun training all three of my cats to do tricks as I never had a dog to train. I love the look on people’s faces when they do their tricks.
