Barbara has always had a strong interest in learning about food and nutrition. However her interest became more serious when in 2006 her son was in 5th grade and diagnosis with IBS. His symptoms varied from diarrhea to gas and bloating, he was thin and pale. Doctors recommended elimination diets that would sometimes help, removing dairy, processed foods, fast foods, but what worked one week didn’t always work the next and symptoms continued. Stress and social life also played a role. As you can imagine sleepovers and team dinners proved challenging for an 11 year old. Not knowing which foods might trigger an attack left him fearful and confused. The uncertainly led to only more STRESS, IBS’s major trigger. Then in 2009 Barbara’s husband was diagnosis with celiac disease. This diagnose was quite unexpected because he really didn’t have any major symptoms. This actually became welcomed news, that perhaps intolerance for gluten was the problem with her son as well. Finally there would be a sold answer of what not to eat. Unfortunately an endoscopy, (the gold standard test for celiac disease) found no evidence of celiac disease. Desperate to find an answer Barbara enrolled in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition where she learned over a hundred dietary theories and experienced first hand the benefits of working with a holistic health coach. She quickly found an IIN health coach to work with her son. The coach was able to support her son in a way that gave him back his power to control his own life.
Barbara would now like to support others who want to reclaim their health and achieve their goals by learning what will work right now, to make every day a feel good day so that you can live the life of your dreams and reach your full potential.
Barbara is a graduate of the University of Connecticut where she majored in psychology, a board certified health coach (AADP) and a nationally certified yoga instructor with over 500 hours of training in anusara & kripalu yoga as well as pradima and meditation. Having recently moved to Dallas from Portland Maine with her husband, (John) dog (phoebe) and cat (chazie) she is very eager to connect with community and make new friends.
